Check an .fds file
Upload an FDS input file and see in seconds whether FDS will run it: syntax errors, overlapping meshes, devices outside the domain, missing references — plus how many cells the model has and how long it will take.
What we check
- syntax: unclosed groups (&…/), missing &HEAD, &TIME with T_END and &TAIL
- meshes: valid IJK and XB, overlaps, cell aspect ratios, resolution jumps at interfaces
- references: SURF_ID, MATL_ID, RAMP_ID, PROP_ID and others that were never defined
- devices (&DEVC) and obstructions (&OBST) outside the domain, duplicates and zero-thickness obstructions
- MPI_PROCESS: gaps and order of numbers, load balance of processes
- DT_RESTART: whether the run can be resumed after a failure
The check catches errors that stop FDS or spoil the results. It does not assess design assumptions or the fire scenario — that is the designer's responsibility. Common FDS input file errors · All guides
